Unit 19 Desktop Project

Genre Collage: This collage was created using images from games magazines. here is a brief explanition of what each genre is.

War - War is made up of guns, tanks battlefields the games are usually set in there present or in world war 2. most war games are first person shooters.

Fantasy - Fantasy is made up of creatures that don't exist E.G dragons, goblins, elves, dwarfs and also has magic.

Sci-Fi - Sci-Fi is set in space or in the future there are usually lifeforms from other planets and advanced weaponry that fire lasers, and there are space ships that travel from planet to planet and there is also many battles in space using small fighter space craft.

Horror - horror is made up of monsters and evil creatures such as vampires, demons, werwolf's and zombies these creatures have certain ways to kill them E.G vampires - a stake through the heart, or werwolf's - silver bullets.

This is my draft desktop that i created in photoshop.
The feedback I got was quite positive but there are some thing's that I could improve on, for the student charter points there is a spelling mistake on one of them and I need to extend some to make two lines for each square and the desktop icons can be put into an order so its easier to locate the most commonly used programmes.

This is my completed desktop design.

EVALUATION

Does the end product match your original intentions? My design was a bit different because had all the squares colored in and I had media suite and the college logo at the top of the screen.

Is the end product appropriate for your intended audience – who was this – age groups, gender? Yes my intended audience were teenagers and adults of both genders, my design is not offensive or inappropriate.

Discuss the technical aspects of your work and highlight the strengths / areas to develop Demonstrate your knowledge of the program [P.Shop/Flash/S.Mx] you used & include 'subject terminology'. For the student charter points i went to http://www.1001fonts.com/ and used a sci-fi and pasted them in photoshop. To create the squares i used the rectangle tool and went over it with the paintbrush and held down shift to keep the lines straight, i also print screened the current desktop background and cropped the image in word to get the desktop icons and then pasted them in photoshop.

Discuss the content / style of your work. i searched work from someone called Invader who was born in 1969, he is a French street artist who pastes up characters from and inspired by the Space Invaders game, made up of small colored square tiles that form a mosaic.

This is an image of his work.

Did you encounter any problems when creating the product? when i created my desktop image and set it as the desktop background the desktop icons wouldn't fit into their squares.

If so how were they resolved? I also print screened the current desktop background and cropped the image in word to get the desktop icons and then pasted them into photoshop.

What have you learnt from this experience? I have learned how to draw straight lines with the pain brush.

What skills have been developed throughout this process? I have learned more about drawing on photoshop.

Did you meet the deadline? Yes i completed it on time.

Did you have any problems with time management? I did miss a week due to illness but i caught up to get back on schedule.

If you had the opportunity to make this product again would you do anything different? there is a small problem with the image where on of the boxes weren't big enough and there were everal white lines that filled the gap.

Are you happy with the overall product? yes i am happy with my product.

3D max

ABSTRACT SCENE

Today i have practiced using 3D's Max creating an abstract scene using the Top, front and left window's i rotated and zoomed in and out to on the perspective window to view the scene in a way that i liked it and rendered it and saved it as a JPEG.

CHARACTERS

This is my robot that i created using 3D Max shapes from Standard Primitives and extended primitives.

This is my human character that i designed on paper then created it using the shapes on 3D max the character isn't exactly as i planned but i am happy with it.

BUILDINGS

I used box modelling to create a castle, we right clicked in perspective and selected edged faces, then we selected modifier and right clicked on the shapes and selected editable mesh to make the walls and towers look more like a castle.

This is my 3D model of the church that i drew out on paper and than created in 3D max its not as good as i expected but i am still learning most of the tool on 3D max.

This is a 3D model of a building that i found on the Internet to compare with the one that i created, hopefully i will be able to create a 3D model like this in the next few weeks once i have learned more about the software.

Arched windows and doorway

Today i started on creating arched windows and doorways, i started this by creating a box adjusting the width, length and height making a Small rectangle shape, then i went to the modifier tool and selected bend and then selected the X axis and changed the angle to bent the box into an arch shape. after that i selected the editable mesh in the modifier list and dragged the bottom right and left polygon down to create pillars I then went to the matirial editer select noise and found a beige colour to made it look like stone.

UNWRAP UVW

This is a house model i was given to use i had to unwrap the box to its template layout, to do this you go to the modifier list and click on UVW unwrap.

Once you have done that click the plus and select face, to open the box to its layout, you have to do each side of the house one at a time. now you start selecting the faces together by holding control and click each one until you have the whole side selected. like in the image below.

Then you go to your parameters and click edit and the UVW editor will come up so you have this screen. and re size the side of the house, you keep doing this with the sides, the bottom and the roof until you have something like in the image on the right.

To create the texture print screen the fully unwrapped layout and paste it into photo shop and with your paintbrush go around each side of the house and fill them with a color and turn the opacity down (make sure you do the color on a new layer).

Once you have done this you can start pasting images of house textures onto your layout putting each image on a different layer you can also add doors and windows.

You save this as a JPEG and go back onto 3D max, you press M on your keyboard to bring up the material editor and next to diffuse click the capital M click next to bitmap and fined the textuer that you saved and open this should then paste the texture onto your 3D house.

ANIMATED NAME

Here's my 3D name that i created by clicking the shapes icon and text, i selected my font, typed my name in the text box and spaced the letters out by keening it. I then clicked on the modifier icon right clicked text and converted it to an editable mesh, selected polygon, selected all the letters and clicked extrude to make my name 3D. to edit my text colour i pressed the letter m on my keyboard to bring up the material editor and selected the colours for Ambient, Diffuse and specular and edited the glossiness, softened it then i clicked show standard map, set the map co-ordinates to planner from XYZ dragged it to perspective and pressed F9 to render it.

This is my animated name.

SPACE SHIP

This is a space ship that i created using box modelling in 3D max i created half of the ship and then cloned it and using the weld toll to attach the two half's together.

LIGHTING

Today i have been experimenting with the use of lighting in 3D max to do this i chose the plane object from my standard primitives and then clicked on the lights tool which is the one with the icon that looks like a torch, i then picked target spot and in the front viewpoint i created my light to make it shine down from above and in the modifier list i used the decay tool and set to inverse to decay the light as it goes further out.

I then changed the colour clicking the white rectangle next to the multiplier and selected a different color

After this i rotated the light to make it shine down from an angle.

I then created some shapes to see how the light would work on them using the things that i have learned.

Today i created a corridor with a series of lights, i created a box, created an editable mesh and deleted the top and end polygons, i then selected all the polygons and under selection i ticked the show normals box and scrolled down to surface properties and selected flip . I then made a lampshade using a cone i then went to lights and made my target light come down through the lampshade i then went to modifier and turned the hot spot beam down. to light up the rest of the corridor i cloned my lights and lampshades, i did this by selecting my lampshade and holing down shift i dragged the shape along to copy it, i did the same with the light.

Environments

30th January 2012

Today i worked on creating environments starting off with creating a plane and in the modifier added a displacement where i put a map on and increased the strength, then i changed the shapes from standard primitives to AEC Extended and clicked foliage to start adding trees to the plane making a small Forrest, all the trees appeared large when created so the height had to be shrunk down to about 38.

game image

This image is from one of my favorite games Lord Of The Rings The Third Age because it had a great story and allowed you to roam around all the areas from the films such as Helms deep and Minas Tirith there is great detail on the scenery to make as close to what its like in the films and has good work on the characters on the game and on weapons and armor.

I got this image from: http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2/image/article/530/530656/the-lord-of-the-rings-the-third-age-20040715095716415_640w.jpg

My Aspirations

What i want to achieve from this course is to get a job in the gaming industry, hopefully designing games or character development, once i haved earned enough money from working i hope to have my own pub and start doing property development.
