unit 73 - sound

Analougue sound

Analogue sound is formated on vinyls and magnetic tape, with the tape the sound quality is better the thicker the tape is and the slower that it runs, analogue is assumed to be better than digital due to it being more ear friendly but a down side to it is that there isnt much memory on it compared to the memory on digital formats and they dont last as long as digital formats, but analogue also has an unlimited bandwidth.
On vinyls the sound is recorded by groves being cut into it to create waves and pick up vibrations.

Today we have started making sound for our trailer me Micheal and Curt went out with the portable recorder to get sound of footsteps in different environments.

unit 70 game trailer

On Tuesday 22 November we got our group together to come up with ideas for our game trailer using our results from the surveys the things we covered were what we need to include in the trailer such as the team logo and looked at the fonts we would be using and characters that would be in it.

In our groups we had to each come up with a keyword to describe the focus of our project i came up with artistic, Curt's word was inspiring, Rob's was challenging and Joe's was puzzling.

3rd January 2012

Our task for today was to practice drawing some environments that we are going to use in our trailer and practice some techniques which include cross sketching and shading and one point and two point perspective. Below is the image i chose and the drawing on the left is my plain drawing of it but i didn't manage to complete it. In the drawing i did a bit of cross sketching on some of the bricks, the picture on the right is split into 4, one section stays black and white, another will be done in felt tip pen
s, colored pencils and the the other in pastels we had to use cartridge paper because pastels don't work well on normal paper for all the drawings A3 size paper was used.

Logo for game name

31st January

Our task was for each member of the group had to design a logo for the name of our game. I went for a scroll background an Edwardian script for the text and then added an image of a wine
bottle. the first logo i left plain with no editing the second logo i added a mosaic tiles texture to it and turned the tile size down and for the third logo i went to brush strokes and added ink outlines.

Here are all the logos from our team we had to vote witch one was going to be the logo for our game name the disadvantages for Micheal's logo was the text being hard to read but the stone background, on Robs there was just the plain black background but that is going to be edited, on Joe's logo the text for Saltaire chronicles was a bit difficult to read and the fonts were inconsistent and with my logo the only thing was that i could have done more work on the text by editing it to look more like ink
. Robs logo with the black background and the colored glow around the title won, although the team has decided that my logo will be used in the trailer as the start menu for the game.

T-Shirt Design for team

23/02/12

The next thing we needed to do for our team was to each create a t-shirt design for our team which needed to include the team logo and the game title image, for my design i just kept it simple with a blank shirt and just added in the team logo and placed it in the top corner of the t-shirt where most logos are found and placed the title image in the center of the t-shirt.

This is my t-shirt design.

06/03/12

Today our team had to vote on who's t-shirt is going to be created for our team it was a close decision with Curt's T-shirt and Joe's, with Curt's T-shirt we liked the idea of having the team members names on the back and Joe's we liked the layout and the color, i liked the way the logo was with just the eye, we did the voting with curt and Micheal choosing curt's T-shirt and me rob and Joe choosing Joe's but with the idea of adding the team members
names on the back.

Curt's T-shirt

Joe's T-shirt

music

today we went through psychology of sound listening to different kinds of music and writing down how each song made us feel and when we had said how we felt about the music we learned more about the tempo of the music and how the more upbeat it was the more alert people were and the style of the music E.G. reggea, these styles effected how we felt and weather we were relaxed, tense or depressed.

Unit 6

For our project this year we have been put into groups, in these groups we had to think of a name for our team's company we all made suggestions and voted the best one from each member as you can see the results that are tallied in the image on the left, from the results there was Holy Turtle which was Michael's idea, Explosive Matrix which was Rob's idea, Chaotic moose was Joe's idea and Cybertronics which was my idea. from these ideas we had to each come up with several draft logo designs: below are some of the ones i came up with.

In this image was the experimentation with the name and what i can do with the letters at the bottom of the image is the idea of using the eye as a logo to go with the name.

In this image i designed a coat of arms still using the eye logo at the top of it and choosing some colors that are quite rich the name goes down the left hand side of the coat of arms with the letters reversed.

This is the final set of drafts where i drew a cyborg eye after looking on the Internet which i thought of using in the bottom name to replace the Y also in that mane i stretched the top of the T to cover most of the word and replaced the last two letters of C and S with the letter X to make it look better. The name in the middle was a font that i found on 1001 fonts called Zero Hour and the fuzzy border around it was going to be a glow around it to make it stand out more. and the other draft design in the top left of the image was more experimentation with reversed lettering and some sheets of mettle and a cog to represent robotic materials. After we finished our drafts we voted on our favorite design from each person, of my design the group voted the idea of the bottom image where the eye logo replaces the letter Y and the T stretching across the word, so the next step was to create it fully in Photoshop.

This is my fished design that i created in Photoshop i scanned the image onto the computer and opened it into Photoshop i added color to the letters and highlighted the edges in black, then i uploaded the eye into the document and added the same blue color to the areas that are metal and colored the eye in green then i added bevel and emboss to make more metallic looking. After we finished our completed logo's we had to vote on the best one below are images of our groups designs including the winner.

The winner was Cybertronix which is now our project logo, it was voted the winner for the eye which would look good as a logo to go on T-Shirts and other products. Me and rob are going to complete the logo by redoing the eye to look more realistic and Joe is going to redo it with a proper font.

Below is the final design for our teams

In our Groups we had to create a survey to collect information for our project so we could determine a target audience and what to include in our project, we all created our own surveys and then decided which one was the best. On Tuesday 11Th October we printed off 30 copies of our surveys and split in to 2 groups to collect the info needed in my group we went down by Salts Mill and Roberts Park to ask the public the first few people that we tried to ask said no and walked away but eventually we found people that would fill out our surveys, when we asked one of the staff at the bakery they tore the survey up and 2 others never got filled out by the people that we gave them to. Once we had our results we split them into male and female and tallied the answers to our questions and then put them into tables in excel.

Unit 69 - concept production

For unit 69 i had to research a cartoon character and redesign it to make it my own, my chioce was Warner Brothers Roger Rabbit and below are the changes that i made with a change of colours and changed the name to Elton Hare.

Following my character development i had to plan out a storyboard to create a short comic strip.

This is my draft for my comic strip.

Here is my completed comic strip which i created in photoshop, all of the characters were hand drawn amd i changed the warner brothers title and replaced it with my name.

i am happy with my completed design but there are some things i could do to make it better, in some scenes i could add a bit more detail where some are quite blank and i could have made the speech bubbles a little neater and more like the speech bubbles found in comics.
